In northeast China, there are three treasures - ginseng, mink fur and antlers. Huangfeng ginseng is the famous brand in the world and the best ginseng in China. Huang Feng are two Chinese characters, meaning title granted by an emperor of the former dynasties. According to the Historical Book of the Qing Dynasty, the Emperor Kangxi sent his highest official Wu Mona to Mengjiangzhou in the Changbai Mountains to seek a medicine for longevity. Mengjiangzhou is the present Jingyu County in Jilin Province. Mr. Wu found this kind of ginseng as a longevity medicine for Emperor Kangxi, who granted it the title, hence the name - Huangfeng ginseng. Jingyu County is 600 metres above sea level and plenty of forest grows there. The ginseng grows in the fertile soil beneath the forest and absorbs mineral water rich in selenium. Through assessment and clinical practice by the China Research Academy of Chinese Traditional Medical Science and the Beijing College of Chinese Traditional Medical Science, the Huangfeng ginseng has been found to contain ginseng saponin, anti-cancer saponin, senility-resistant malt phenol and amino acids. At present, sales of Huangfeng ginseng are handled by the Jilin Huangfeng Ginseng Group Corporation. The company has become the largest ginseng production and processing base in Asia. The products have six categories - medicine, ginseng tea, red ginseng, white ginseng, drinks and health foods. Huangfeng ginseng has won 18 major prizes in China and the world. It sells well in Hongkong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia and other southeast Asian countries and regions.
