Kwang-suk, Ko
I have once thought about what is the happiest life throughout the
whole life.
I suppose it is the happiest and most ideal life to do for oneself
what one likes and what one has a talent to do it. I am the happiest
in that way.
I love Oriental medicine and enjoy to study it. Though I sometimes
feel heavy in the chest when the progress of study is delayed, but
I feel deeply moved when I understand each clauses of original text.
I am such a humdrum to be compared with genii who apply for Oriental
medicine college nowadays. I was a student with a simple dream of
¡°I am going to be a Oriental medicine doctor and cure disease of
my mother. ¡± whenever I saw my mother who was always ill in bed.
But I became an ardent student with passionate attitude when I realized
the superiority of Oriental medicine through Somun Society.
I came to have a dream of being an excellent Oriental medicine doctor
thanks to that society through which I learned by actual experience
the excellence of Oriental medicine despite of my obscure knowledge
of it.
I am full of admiration when I find the reason of cosmos and all
things from the original text of Oriental medicine ¡°Hwangje Negyung¡±
which was written some thousands years ago.
Oriental
medicine is imaginary medicine though Hwata and Pyunjak performed
surgical operation or dissection long times ago and TV drama shows
that Huhjun was told to perform dissection of his teacher¡¯s body.
It is a kind of studies to draw which part has disorder in the head
through feeling the flow of energy in the body via pulse without
dissection of human body.
Therefore
I believe that a oriental medicine doctor should be an artist.
He notices the closed energy and prescribes medicine to help flow
of it. His duty even includes the effects of the medicine in the
body. It requires a state of artist¡¯s to prescribe proper medicine
for every body which has a different structure. Doctors should be
affectionate for person.
The
aged man, Wonse Lee, who has succeeded Sukgok, Kyujune Lee, still
teaches younger students in spite of great age, 96. I wonder ¡°How
does he who has a pure mind gets older still carrying that figure
with him.¡±
I
am just a child full of empty fame compared to those senior doctors
though I am a doctor and professor. But I have a mind to become
such a doctor who consoles and assists patients.
Nowadays the original sphere of doctors becomes narrower because
many doctors feel the pulse and treat the diseases using machines.
But I still have a faith in oriental medicine doctor because there
still exist wider and broader parts which we can not recognize by
using figures and data from machines.
It is once my duty and assignment to carry on the traditional oriental
medicine which has been inherited to us.
